For the classification of Firefighter, applicants must be at least 18 years of age. For all other classifications, applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
You do not need to be a US citizen in order to apply for employment with the Department. Individuals selected for employment must be able to present acceptable proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States, and the authenticity of the original documents will be verified before starting work.
A Department employment application is required for all positions. The process is simple and is completed electronically on our website. You will attach your resume and any other documents that may be required as stated on the job announcement.
Specific instructions will be stated on the job announcement. A link to apply for the job will be on the job announcement. Be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully as some recruitments may require additional documents to be uploaded to the portal as part of the application. Incomplete or late submissions will be disqualified.
The minimum requirements are listed in the job announcement as well as job specification posted on our website. Your application submission will be reviewed carefully.
Please note: possession of the minimum qualifications does not guarantee further advancement in the selection process. The Department reserves the right to advance the most qualified applicants through the selection process.
After review of all received applications, selected applicants will be invited to move on to the next phase of the process. For many positions, there will be a written examination, followed by an oral board interview. An employment eligibility list will be established from the interview scores. Candidates will be invited to a final selection interview with the hiring manager based on number of vacancies for the position and the candidate’s placement on the eligibility list. The hiring manager will make a selection, and the selected candidate will receive a conditional offer for employment. Depending on position, the candidate will be required to complete and pass the following: reference check/background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and Livescan fingerprint. The candidate must successfully pass all components of the conditional offer in order to receive a final offer for employment with the Department.
The Department will notify applicants of the status of their application by email.

You are welcome to any of our 15 stations and learn about the Department. Station visits cannot be scheduled, as crews are to remain on duty, so there is a chance that the station visit may need to abruptly end with no notice. Addresses of our stations can be found here.

Per our Personnel Rules & Regulations, an eligibility list is active for up to 18 months. During the 18-month period, if a vacancy become available, depending on your ranking on the eligibility list, you may be invited to participate in next steps of the selection process, which may include an interview with the hiring manager and/or practical test(s).
